Superstition is an ancient and mysterious topic in human society.For the cultural and historical reasons, superstition is a common social psychological phenomenon in China, but strangely enough, this phenomenon is unusual and rising in college students receiving higher education in recent years. So it is very important to find out the conditions of superstition and reveal the psychological mechanism of college students in China. The study of superstition started early in western psychology, but the results in previous researches were not consistent because of different definition and research tools.To cover the shortages of previous researches, this study employed the definition under the Chinese cultural background and the measuring tool based on the same definition to study the nowadays Chinese college students'superstitious psychology.This study summed up the previous researches, and assumed that college students'superstitious psychology had differences on demographic variables; coping style had a mediation effect between locus of control and superstitious psychology. In order to test the hypothesis above, this study adopted questionnaire method to investigate 915 college students. The results are as followed:(1) The degree superstition in college students is low in medium.(2) Scores in Superstition Questionnaire of College students had significant differences on demographic variables.(3) Scores in Superstition Questionnaire of College students significantly correlated with age.(4) Scores in Internality, Powerful Others, Chances Scale and Coping style had significant differences on demographic variables.(5) Scores in Powerful Others and Chances Scale were significantly correlative with superstition(6) Scores in Powerful Others and Chances Scale significantly positively predicted scores in Superstition Questionnaire; scores in Solve problems significantly negatively predicted scores in Superstition Questionnaire; scores in Delusion and Rationalization significantly positively predicted scores in Superstition Questionnaire.(7) Mature coping Solve problems has partly mediating effect between Powerful Others control and superstition psychology; immature coping Delusion has partly mediating effect between Powerful Others and Chances control; mixed coping Rationalization has partly mediating effect between Powerful Others control and superstition psychology.
