Objective:To learn about the characteristics of health locus of control, social supports and copingstyles and explore the influence factors of health locus of control, social supports andcoping styles in hemodialysis patients by investigating and analysing the correlation amonghealth locus of control, social supports and coping styles in hemodialysis patients, andprovide reference materials for the future research and interventionMethods:From January to May in2011,100patients who received maintenance hemodialysistreatment in the blood purification center from a Grade III-A hospital in ChangChun wererecruited to complete a series of questionnaires. Study instruments included the demographicinformation, the Mental Health Locus of Control Scale (MHLC),The Social SupportRating Scale (SSRS) and the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ). The data wereentered into the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS)13.0for the descriptive andinferential statistical analysis of the feed backed questionnaires. The statistical methodsincluded descriptive analysis,t-test,Pearson correlation and Logistic multiple linearregression analysis.Results:1. The characteristics of health locus of control, social supports and coping stylesin hemodialysis patients. There was a statistical significance between hemodialysis patients and model on healthlocus of control, social supports and coping styles. The hemodialysis patients had a lowerinternal health locus of control than model (P<0.01);The hemodialysis patients had higherpowerful others and chance than model (P<0.01);The hemodialysis patients had highersocial supports than model (P<0.01);The hemodialysis patients had lower active copingfactors, and higher passive coping actors than model (P<0.001).2.The correlation among health locus of control, social supports and coping stylesin hemodialysis patients. There was a significant negative relationship between IHLC and social supports. There was a significantly negative relationship between CHLC and social support. There was asignificantly positive relationship among IHLC,PHLC,CHLC,positive coping factorsand passive coping factors, but there was a more significant positive relationship betweenIHLC and active coping factors. In this research, patients who were external controltendency were more likely to take passive ways to deal with. There was a more significantnegative relationship between social supports and passive coping factors, the higher thescore of social supports, the lower possibility of patients to take passive ways to deal with.3.The influence factors of health locus of control, social supports and copingstyles in hemodialysis patients.Age(RR=2.164),cost pay (RR=0.057)were influence factors of IHLC;Age(RR=2.022),cost pay (RR=0.435)were influence factors of PHLC;Because thenumber of cases of CHLC was lower than the models’,Logistic multiple linear regressionanalysis could not finish;Marriage (RR=5.22),family income (RR=2.074)wereinfluence factors of social supports;family income(RR=2.074).The rest of the originaldisease(RR=0.133),Diabetic nephropathy(RR=2.126),Polycystic kidney disease(RR=0.353),Hypertension kidney disease(RR=0.5)were influence factors of activecoping factors. Dialysis time (RR=2818), Diabetic nephropathy (RR=0.838),Polycystic kidney disease(RR=0.26),Hypertension kidney disease(RR=1.072)wereinfluence factors of passive coping factors.Conclusions:1.Hemodialysis patients’ characteristics of health locus of control are external healthlocus of control, which illustrate that the hemodialysis patients cann’t control theirconditions after onset and depend passively on others or believing in fates and opportunities.2.The social supports in hemodialysis patients:the degrees of social supports risewith the smaller age, married (including divorced and widowed),more cost pay, moredialysis time.3.The hemodialysis patients adopt more passive coping styles than positive copingstyles after onset.
