The senior high school period is a very special period for middle school students to be mature in mentality and is also an important period for them to form personality traits. At the same time, senior high school students confront lots of stress such as taking college entrance exam and applying for a job etc. It would affect their academic achievement and the development of mentality directly that what kind of personality traits is formed and what kinds of coping styles are used to relieve the stress they face. The purpose of this study is to explore Mongolian and Han senior high school students'(MHSHSS) personality traits and the characteristics of coping styles, and to study the relationship between personality traits and coping styles, and to have a comparative study on the traits of the two kinds of the characteristics above. The study result would have a theoretical significance on enriching and consummating middle school students'mental research and have a practical significance on instructing mental health education and personality education in middle schools in a minority area. With the aid of questionnaires, auxiliary interview and documentary methods etc., personality traits, coping styles and their relationship of 802 MHSHSS have been investigated. The conclusions are as follows: 1. In comparison, nationality difference does not exist in personality traits such as openness, neuroticism and extraversion. However, remarkable difference shows in agreeableness and conscientiousness. Compared with Mongolian students, the score of Han students'agreeableness is higher but the score of their conscientiousness is lower. 2. As for the gender, there is no evident difference in two kinds of personality traits: extraversion and conscientiousness, but obvious difference in three kinds: agreeableness, neuroticism and openness. The score of girls'agreeableness and conscientiousness are higher compared to boys', and their openness'score is lower than boys'. 3. There is no prominent difference in three kinds of personality traits: agreeableness, neuroticism and conscientiousness among different grades, obvious difference in two: openness and extraversion. Following with the rising of the grade, personality traits: openness and extraversion are on a decline. 4. The MHSHSS'adoption and conduction of the coping styles differ in nationality. Remarkable difference about problem-solving style, feeling ventilation and tolerance doesn't exist between Mongolian and Han students, but about help-seeking style, withdrawal and fantasy, it exists. Compared with Han students, Mongolian ones are more apt to use these three coping styles. 5. Generally speaking, evident difference in adapting and conducting coping styles has been found between boys and girls, and girls prefer to feeling ventilation. 6. Different grades influences the adoption and the conduction of coping styles. The higher the grade is, the less the fantasy is adopted and conducted. The adoption and conduction of problem-solving style rises and falls. It falls from Grade 1 to Grade 2,while rises from Grade 2 to Grade 3. 7. The MHSHSS'each kind of personality traits: openness, neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness has obvious correlation with their every kind of coping styles: problem-solving style, feeling ventilation, tolerance, help-seeking style, withdrawal and fantasy, who are in different nationality, different gender and different grades. 8. The MHSHSS who are with high conscientiousness are incline to adopt problem-solving style and tolerance coping styles; who are with high extraversion are incline to adopt help-seeking style and withdrawal; who arewith high neuroticism are incline to adopt feeling ventilation and fantasy coping styles. Based on the conclusions above, some educational suggestions are provided in order to have an instructive function on the education of MHSMSS'personality and coping styles in a minority area.
