The Comparative Study On Wenyanci's Collection And Interpretation Of Modern Chinese Dictionary And Modern Chinese Standard Dictionary

Wenyanci is a kind of words that stemmed from ancient Chinese and are existing in modern Chinese vocabulary system now. Owing to its uniqueness in expression and richness in meaning, it plays an irreplaceable role in modern Chinese with strong vitality. The study on wenyanci is always paid attention to in academic field and wenyanci is given elaboration in nearly all kinds of modern Chinese textbooks and modern Chinese vocabulary monographs. Because the definition between wenyanci and archaism in academic field is still controversial and the study on wenyanci and archaism is always miscellaneous combined, there is a lack of independence of the wenyanci as a subject of study results. And the comparative study to collect and interpret wenyanci in medium language dictionary is not yet there. This paper, at first, gives the definition and scope of wenyanci and strips it off archaism, then gives quantitative study on the wenyanci in "Modern Chinese Dictionary" (fifth edition) and "Modern Chinese Standard Dictionary". And the author gives horizontal contrast of the two dictionaries in six aspects such as the numbers, standard, systematic, part of speech tagging, mixed with other words, the interpretation of wenyanci. The comparative study aims to explore better approach of wenyanci in dictionaries and the author puts forward his own views to provide some methods and reference for the study on wenyanci in dictionaries. The paper includes six parts:The first part introduces the history and current situation of similar researches and points out the purpose and significance of the paper. The instrument used in this paper is quantitative and qualitative study of the closed. The materials of the study are all units marked in "Modern Chinese Dictionary" (fifth edition) and "Modern Chinese Standard Dictionary". These units include both words and morphemes.The second part compares the definitions of wenyanci in academic field and distinction and connection between wenyanci and archaism. The Connotation, denotation and nature of wenyanci are defined and the conclusion comes out. The author points out that the scope of units marked in "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(fifth edition) and "Modern Chinese Standard Dictionary" and wenyanci are roughly equivalent.Third part makes a research on the collection of wenyanci in "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(fifth edition) and "Modern Chinese Standard Dictionary". The author compares the two dictionaries from three aspects such as the numbers, confirmed standard and systemic of collected wenyanci and puts forward his own opinions on a few specific issues.The fourth part mainly discusses the issues on wenyanci and dialect words, part of speech tagging language, as well as the miscellaneous combination problems of wenyanci and history words in the two dictionaries.The fifth parts generally explains the interpretation in "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(fifth edition) and "Modern Chinese Standard Dictionary", and then compares and analyses a few specific issues on interpretation in the two dictionaries, including the accuracy of interpretations, the appropriateness of interpretation and the reasonableness of items listed and collected. The author puts forward his own opinions on some issues.The sixth part points out the significance of wenyanci in the life for the second time, hoping to draw further in-depth study and hoping that dictionary compiler would give timely amendments on dictionaries according to theoretical research results to guide people in the proper use of wenyanci.
