1969-1974 is one of the most important periods in the bilateral relations of China and U.S.A. Sino-U.S, relations experienced a shift from hostility towards strategic alliances. This had an impact on other areas of the world and on the international relations. The essay inquiries into this process of Sino-American relations from a new perspective-Constructivism. It departed from the traditional realism, which emphasized such as conflict and cooperation, balance of power. This paper describes the U.S. government's efforts to re-define the characteristics of China.The paper consists of six chapters. The first chapter Generalize present research of native and foreignness especially do the research with constructivism and related methods. Constructivism emphasizes the importance of cognitive structure in the international politics and the actor of international politics how to define their identity and characteristics.Chapter Two and Three clarify the basic idea and the inherent meaning of constructivism, particularly about "security community" ideology. It argues that the U.S. government redefining of china political identity and its position in the world politics encouraged the U.S.A. to approach China.Chapter Four,Five and Six study specific situations of Sino-U.S. relations from 1969 to 1974, arguing that through Ambassadorial meeting,Special Envoy's visit,High-level visits and setting up liaison offices, both sides actively convey the messages to get a big step forward in Sino-U.S. relations. Although both sides have different views on Taiwan issue, the two sides finally made a breakthrough on the key issue through negotiations and compromises.The conclusion summarizes the history of rapprochement between two sides, analyzing the Nixon government's diplomatic actions. The paper point out that re-thinking about China and its rapprochement policy, contributed to the construction of a Sino-American relation.
