The Research On "比" Sentence In Modern Chinese

"比" sentence is a very common form in modem chinese. Many scholars have studied it for a long time, especially from 1980s, they did lots of research from syntax aspect,semantic aspect,pragmatic aspect and so on. On the Basis we have had now, the paper will focus on the following aspects:First, the paper analyzes semantic applicabilities of the conclusion items and the comparison items. According to the different types of AP, VP and NP's conclusion items in "比" sentence, the paper analyzes the semantic applicabilities of the different conclusion items. Then, we get four different cases.Second, on the basis of the first part, the paper discusses the relations between the conclusion items and the omitting of comparing's points. According to the different types ofAP, VP and NP's conclusion items in "比" sentence, we can find if the conclusion items change the omittings will be different.Third, the paper probes into the Anti-expected function of the adverb "还" in the "比" sentence. There are three Anti-expected types in the "X比Y还W" sentence pattern, (a) opposite to the anticipation of the speaker, (b) opposite to the anticipation of the listener, (c) opposite to the anticipation of the speaker and the listener, for they live in a specific language community and share the common understanding.Fourth, the paper briefly analyses the difference between "X比Y还W" and "X比Y还W" from semantic frame. It is considered that the two models' are semantically different.
