One of the basic and significant characteristics of natural language is the language fuzziness, which is unavoidable and inevitable in our daily life, especially in spoken languages. Oral speeches are the main objects of a dialogue interpreting performance. Therefore, the language fuzziness is sure to emerge quite frequently in the dialogue interpreting process. Efficient and effective approaches to the messages carrying language fuzziness would help enhance the dialogue interpreting performance greatly. The language fuzziness in this thesis is in a broad sense, and perceived from phonetic, semantic, pragmatic and cultural perspectives. The phonetic fuzziness touches upon homonym, liaisons and elisions, accents and stress, intonations and pauses, etc. The semantic fuzziness covers vagueness, ambiguity, and fuzziness in a narrow sense. The pragmatic fuzziness refers to wide denotations and deep connotations of words, expressions or sentences in a specific context or situation. The cultural fuzziness concerns the indefiniteness originating from the differences among various cultures.According to Daniel Gile's Effort Model in interpretation, there are three major interpretation processes in a dialogue interpretation, which also can be applied to a dialogue interpretation: the listening and analysis process, the memory and note-taking process as well as the production process. Sufficient processing capacity is a must to guarantee a good interpreting performance.Since the language fuzziness is difficult to identify and handle, those messages with language fuzziness would set some obstacles for the interpreter. This thesis aims at exploring some effective approaches to the language fuzziness in various forms from the perspective of effort-saving and translation skills in the three major processes of dialogue interpretation, so that the whole interpreting performance can be promoted.
