| ObjectivesThis paper presents the data of the assessment of a cohort of medical school students. We evaluated the influence of demographic data on the personality traits and trap-taking, and then explored relationships between personality traits and decision-making process. This study evaluated how personality traits of medical school students contribute to their trap-taking and further career decision-making, provided scientific proof of psychological help on the medical school students who were greater trap-taking, and improved the quality of decision-making.MethodsThe samples were composed of different kinds of medical students from one medical school in Liaoning Province, with the ratio 1:2 of male to female according to the matriculated instance. We sent out about 1000 questionnaires, and got 827 back, with 795 effective ones. Using the data gathered from these questionnaires, we explored relationships among demographic data, five factors of personality and trap-taking. We draw the conclusion according to the results of descriptive statistics, ANOVA measures and regression analysis.ResultsFirst, in the five factors of personality traits, medical school students got the highest scores in agreeableness, then conscientiousness, neuroticism, openness to experience, and extraversion. The major personality trait of medical school students were agreeableness and conscientiousness. There were significant differences between gender groups for extraversion and agreeableness. There also were significant differences between student sources for conscientiousness, openness to experience and neuroticism. Second, there were significant differences between gender groups for trap-taking. The significant differences also showed between schooling length groups. Last, there were significant relationships between trap-taking and personality traits of medical school students.ConclusionsThe results indicated that our teaching staff can not only care about the rate of employment, also have to pay more attention on the mental health of medical school students, especially on the factors of extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness. We should lead all the medical school students with different personality traits make better decisions of their lives. As one of the factors that had influence on decision-making, personality traits can not predicted trap-taking very well. Use more related factors may have a considerable impact on further research assessment and analysis. |
