This study investigated the relationship between personality traits and self-esteem on the music and non-music students from an interdisciplinary perspective, with the method of literature review and questionnaire.In this study,the comparative analysis on the music and non-music students was started from the perspective of personality traits and self-esteem. This paper focused on two points. Firstly, we combined the trait and self theory in personality psychology with the feature of music discipline,and measured the personality and self-esteem of the music and non-music students. Secondly, We explored development situation of music students' personality and self-esteem,compared the diversities between music students and others. The results indicated:First, the gregariousness, social boldness, sensitivity, privateness, perfectionism, introversion and extroversion of the music students have higher score than non-music ones. But the permanence, doubtfulness, anxiety, independence, adaptability and anxiety, cowardice and neatness of the music students have lower score than non-music ones.Second, the music students have higher self-esteem than non-music ones.Third, the doubtfulness, fantasticalness, privateness and anxiety among the sixteen personality characteristics and Self-esteem level showed obvious correlation.This research made an effort to bring personality psychology into the music field. We aimed at describing development situation of music students' personality and self-esteem, investigating their development feature, and revealing the differences of personality and self-esteem between music students and non-music ones. This paper enriched music and personality psychology theory, opened a new window for musical psychology, and provided another research perspective and broader field of study. what's more, for teaching practice of music this study provides a theoretical basis and foundation. It has the theoretical and practical value.
