Research On The Poems Written After Failing In The Imperial Examinations In Tang Dynasty

With the appearance of imperial exam system, there were a new form appears in the poetic territory of Tang dynasty. The new form is poems written after failing in the imperial examinations. Failing in the imperial examinations is a great strike of scholar. Failing in the imperial examinations pitiless stimulates the soul of scholar that induces many deep thoughts about life. People take their thoughts in poem, so failing in the imperial examinations become a subject matter which has aesthetic value in the poetic territory of Tang dynasty.According to the different content, this article divided the poems which were written after failing into four categories: to express the writers'emotions, to present others, to Ganye others, to gibe at others. Because of the similar experience of the candidates who failed in imperial exams, the emotions which expressed in poems written after failing in the imperial examinations are also similar. This article chiefly explicated their sorrowful emotion. The quantity of poems which are to present others are great, it is over one third of all. Some presenting poems express the leaving and missing emotions, some help friends to forget the pain of failing, some chiefly encourage and comfort friends who failed in the imperial exams. Because of the character of imperial exam system itself, there are plenty of vigorous Ganye. In spite of the different content and expressing way of Ganye poems, the goal which wants to get the recommendation is same. Because of the corrupt politics, there are many unfair in imperial exams. The candidates who failed in imperial exams recognized the corruption of society by failing again and again. A great of people expose the malpractice of imperial exam system by their poems.The poems of written after failing in the imperial examinations reflect the life and mentality of the candidates who failed in imperial exams. Facing to the failing, people's selections are different. Some people persist in the imperial exam, some choose seclusion, some go to study Taoism, and others seek other way which can succeed. Because of the different choices, the mentalities of people are also different.As a new type of poem, poems which were written after failing in the imperial examinations are reclamation about Chinese poesy which is inherit traditional artistic achievement and relate contemporary reality. It has great meaning to the literature of Tang dynasty. The poems not only broaden the subject matter and richen the content of Tang dynasty's poems, but also reflect the customs and show real living state of people.
