Kinship appellation, the way that people call their relatives, is for relatives to call each other. Kinship appellation is an externalized symbol of kinship relationship and kinship concept, and there exist rich historical and cultural connotations. Kinship relationship and kinship concept stem from marriage system and social ethics and morality as well as starting from me. Ancient Chinese appellation is a very complex system to mark kinship relationship. It is a reflection of feudal patriarchal system on appellation. It also shows that family values play an important role in society. The traditional family system has influenced China for several thousand years, people's daily life is not only for individuals but more for the whole family, and so patriarchal concept is one of the main aspects of the traditional Chinese culture. In contemporary society, Kinship appellation is no longer closely connected with the divine right and the monarchical power, but it is an essential language vocabulary. Studying the status of kinship appellation in some certain area, especially in its dialects, can reflect its profound social and cultural connotations.From the perspective of cultural studies, kinship system itself is a practical embodiment of the cultural system. Appellation is an essential social behavior in human life. Kinship terms are the terms about closeness of kinship and age and social status. It not only reflects a person's status and role in the network of kinship relationship, but also reflects that people's social attributes, interpersonal relationship and values are closely related to culture, political background and traditional customs.Language is a product of the transformation of the objective world. It is the key to the creation and development of culture. Meanwhile the development of language contributes to richness and perfection of language. That's to say, they promote each other and relatively independent. The languages of different nation reflect and record the specific cultural outlooks of different nation. Kinship appellation, depending on marriage relationship and descent principle, is a reflection of the complex structure of human society through the process of language. It belongs to language system and is a direct manifestation of the progress of human thinking. The structure and characteristics of Xian Tao dialect Kinship system reflect the socio-cultural psychology of the people there and also demonstrate the relationship between language and culture. Studying it can help to deepen the understanding of the social and cultural characteristics in this area.Kinship appellation is a direction sign of cultural era. With the development of society and culture, kinship appellation system is developing and changing. Studying the changes of kinship appellation can reflect the times background of social life and people's psychological changes. Studying kinship appellation in the view of culture can decipher the various deep cultural codes, so as to grasp its essential characteristics more accurately. If not, it also can interpret some personality characteristics and value levels of national culture.In addition, the study of kinship appellation also has linguistic significance. Kinship terms are a kind of basic vocabulary that is used with very high frequency and that has strong stability. And they have particular functions and emotional colors while expressing ideas. The changes of kinship terms lie in the evolution of language and vocabulary, and also in the expansion of community kinship appellation.Basing on the previous study, this essay compares Xian Tao kinship appellation with modern Chinese and other dialects and studies the cultural psychology of the using process of it. This essay consists of five parts as follows:Part one is preface which illustrates some basic concepts, the significance of this study, the status of this task research at home and aboard and a brief explanation of material sources and studying methods.Part two analyses the characteristics of Xian Tao kinship appellation and divides Xian Tao kinship appellation in to four main areas. By comparing the kinship terms of each Xian Tao dialect and comparing Xian Tao dialect and the common language of Han people, we find the great differences between Xian Tao dialect and the common language of Han people on the pronunciation and vocabulary of kinship appellation. The transformation of Xian Tao kinship appellation's word form is more complex and varied. Besides the different addressing forms and appellation behind one's back, appellation nouns also contain various word forms derived from rich emotion, that's called "different forms same thing". But "same form different things" not only contains the simplified forms of the common language, but also contains the different word forms of the same appellation formed by history, personal belief, customs and cultural cultivation. Because Xian Tao kinship system has relatively static stability, people can communicate among different dialect areas and also with others who speak Han common language. Part three analyzes the word formation Xian Tao kinship terms, and explains the ways of word formation, the changes of word form in different situation as well as some usual appellation. Although appellation is manifested in oral language, its overlap, He Yin, and a weakening of the written form after the title phrase are actually the word-forms. This chapter emphasized that along with word-form change phenomena of the overlap, He Yin, weakened morphological in Xian Tao dialect, semantic changes, or different pronunciation to different semantics are made.Part four analyses the tendency of masculinization of female appellation in Xian Tao dialect and the reflected cultural psychology. Chinese kinship appellation is a very complex system. On one hand, it marks the relative relationship of Chinese, meanwhile reflects the influence of feudal patriarchal system on appellation. On the other hand, it shows the importance of family values in social life.Part five analyses its development and openness from the aspect of simplifying of Xian Tao kinship appellation and evolving towards Chinese national common language.
