Calligraphy plays an important part in the development of Chinese traditional drawing. Figure painting of the Chinese realistic painting is one of the ripest Classes in Chinese painting. Calligraphy is the most basic way in the traditional figure painting, and the most straightforward language while art is to deal with. From coming out, the application of calligraphy in Chinese painting have been thrown the intelligence and energies of a large number of artists into, and manifests the esthetic orientation of that time and the artistic thought. Calligraphy is not only a way of art creation, but a media which express the temperament ,quality, self-cultivation and spirit of artists. Figure painting in Tang and Jin Dynasty stands for the highest level of traditional figure painting. Studying the relation between Calligraphy of character drawing in Jin and Tang Dynasty and using pen and thread and China philosophy , not only know more about marrow of traditional figure painting, but let us re-recognize the importance of the Calligraphy , which help us succeed and develop traditional painting and create and expand the figure painting; besides, we can absorb foreign outstanding culture while succeed quintessence of traditional art , so that we can strengthen the vitality of the calligraphy in Chinese painting .This essay analyzes the concrete embodiment of the calligraphy in Tang and Jin Dynasty painting, especially for the calligraphy of Gu Kaizhi and Wu Daozi, and explain that the calligraphy plays an important part in traditional painting and is the most basic language in skill principles and is infinite in the shape and also can manifest the mood of the artist and expresses feelings and one's ideas; it shows that the calligraphy grows up with history and play an indubitable role , then we can make a conclusion that the calligraphy is the basic in the foundation, we should probe and create constantly; at the same time ,this essay point out that attacked by all kinds of artistic ideological schools ,we should learn more about the main calligraphy in traditional painting which is different from other paintings so as to keep unique artistic charm of Chinese painting.
