In the background of economical globalization and the raise of China's international status, Confucius Institute, as the formal and major channel of international Chinese promotion, has drawn unparalleled attention by the world. Confucius Institute is a non-profitable social public institute with the basic task of promoting Chinese language and culture. The model it adopted is to cooperate with overseas educational institutes or franchising. The headquarter, which is located in Beijing, provides teaching and course patterns as the main teaching sources of the overseas Confucius Institutes. Confucius Institute follows uniform teaching, tests, and training quality authentication system in teaching and examination. It provides professional Chinese language training to common people and training of teaching ability to foreign Chinese language teachers.Confucius Institute is the major channel of promoting Chinese language and culture. This essay takes the university function expanding, theory of non-profitable organization, and theory of cross-cultural exchange as the fundamental, from the angle of current situation of Confucius Institute, introduces the global distributing and the management and modal. The essay introduces the teachers, teaching materials and teaching method from the angle of teaching, and raises the issues occurred during the running of it, in order to let the readers have a draft understanding of Confucius and its current situation.The overseas language promotion institutes have long history; this essay analyzes the relationship between the institutes and government, the tenet and aim, the running model, management method, capital sources, and major working; and takes the British Council from English, France Alliance from France, Goethe Institute from Germany, and Institute Cervantes as examples. Based on the knowledge of overseas language promotion institutes, the essay compares Confucius Institute and them, draws the conclusion: the major difference lies on the relationship between Confucius Institute and universities, which is strong and inseparable.Thus the essay obtains that the orientation of Confucius Institute and the suggestions towards the development of it. The suggestions are to strengthen the government policy guarantee, to strengthen the training of teachers, to uniform the image of it, to develop variety of activities to respect the educational sovereignty, to set up the evaluation system, so as to explore the mature model of Confucius Institute.
