Violence aesthetics appeared in the film review of honking in the late 1980's, which was used to give a description to Yusen Wu's action films. After then similar performance was frequently adopted by directors who want to develop the art of violence, and finally violence aesthetics became an extraordinary style of film . In the movement of the time, now violence aesthetics considered as a fashion label has exercised a great influence on games and cartoons, but however, it is always a controversial subject that whether violence aesthetics is really the aesthetic expression or not and if it should be included in an aesthetic category. This essay starting from violence aesthetics tries to give an analysis to its headstream, forms and charactistics and techniques of expression.Firstly, the essay gives clear definitions about violence, violence films and, recalls the development of violence aesthetics, introduces typical works and then figures out its classification method.Secondly, it comprehensively investigates the implications of violence aesthetics. On one hand it makes a conclusion of the reasons that why people are keen on violence aesthetic films in terms of both Freudianism, collective unconsciousness and sociology. One the other hand, combined with the theory of "Montage of Attraction", the means of artistic expression of violence aesthetics are classified in this article and it is put forward that violence aesthetics is such a artistic expression that gives back the right of speech about films to the audience themselves and explores the utmost beauty of scenes. What's more, this essay gives an insight to the artistic expressions and values of well-known films directed by Yusen Wu, Quentin Tarantino and Kitano Takeshi. From the ways used by the famous directors to desolating violence, the conclusion can be summed up that violence aesthetics which reveals bloodiness and violence to people in all the facets of pleasure and beauty, and it not only reflects violent instinct of human beings , comforts their desire for freedom, imaginative heroes, but also shows the individual style of the director's.Last but not least, there is no denying that violence aesthetics, a formed school of film, most suitable for our updated market, has its negative effects on young people, thus we should help them to form a proper attitude towards violence and also appeal that violent films would lay upon art instead of violence itself.
