The Concept Of Time And Space & The Outlook Of Human Beings About The Yao Nationality In Dongshan District

Every knowledge systems of cultures are constructed and developed from some conceptions of classifications of basic cultures, such as human beings, time, space, the outlook of human beings, substance, work, supernatural belief, and etc. Therefore researching one kind of culture from the angle of classifications of basic cultures, it can get into investigated objects more basically, completely and deeply, and help better understanding the researched cultures.Some unique cultures always derive from the specific time and space. Different natural geography and anthropogeography environments bring up different cultural features. The cultures of Yao Nationality are being cultivated through contacting, communicating and melting with the other nationalities continuously, especially Han Nationality. Dongshan Yao is sub-branch nationality of Panshan Yao, which is branch of Yao Nationality, and was considered as"mountain resident". Dongshan Yao Nationality Town is located in the high altitude and cold mountain district in the north of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, close to the Chu culture circle and main traffic roads connecting Xiang(Hunan Province) and Gui(Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region). From the old times Han Nationality and Yao Nationality blend with each other. As being impacted by Han culture deeply, it has obvious trace of Han Culture in that of Yao Nationality. The belief of fengshui(geomantic omen) is one of obvious aspects. Operating fengshui(geomantic omen) for over half of century, the belief of fengshui(geomantic omen) of Han Nationality gradually melt into and deposit in the depth of Dongshan's belief. Therefore from the angle of conceptions of classifications of basic cultures to microcosmic-study the individual case of the Dongshan Yao's fengshui belief in some idiographic villages (community), which is beneficial for understanding and grasping culture meanings and features of Dongshan Yao completely. Following this thinking way, using the investigation method of history Anthropology, putting the fengshui belief and cultural phenomena in the Shangtang Village of Dongshang Yao Nationality Town Quanzhou County in the North of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, we investigate the cultural images and life scenes of social fengshui belief in the remote village from the dualistic relationship between the observable"ritual"and the unobservable"conception", and discuss the construction and correlation between the conceptions of classifications of basic cultures, which are the concept of time, the concept of space, and the outlook of human beings in the knowledge system of Dangshan Yao's fengshui belief culture.Shangtang Village has the biggest population of Yao clansman in the Dongshan Yao Nationality Town. And most of people's family name is Feng. Feng clan migrated to this place from Jiangxi Province on the end of Ming Dynasty and beginning of Qing Dynasty. By paying attention to fengshui all through the ages, the Nationality culture features of blending Han with Yao was formed. The local villagers operate fengshui for a long time and abroad. The observable"ritual"and the unobservable"conception"penetrate into their daily life. Then the history and culture of fengshui in their clan was constructed.On the side of observable"ritual", the local villagers know and understand fengshui belief which picked out and borrowed from other places in their own view. They consider"ritual"as one of s symbolize capital and effective resources competition ways in the local society, and apply them in the coordination, fighting and tradeoff between clans, factions and peoples about natural resources, economic benefits, cultural power, ebb and flow of strength, and community relation, and etc. In the virtue of fengshui stories, fengshui literatures, pedigree, epigraphy and fengshui explanation of flourish and declining of family, such kind of substance carrier literature or oral literature, and cultural phenomena that the location of villiages, buildings and lunar houses are related with fengshui, the local villagers explain and construct their clan history and village history, and display the social images and life scenes of Yao Nationality villages in the remote mountainous area. They also express the point of view that operating fengshui is considered as one way of achieving apperception of human beings and Earth, and harmony between human beings and nature.On the other side of unobservable"conception", the Shantang villagers construct their own unique systematic the concept of space, the concept of time and the outlook of human beings, in the guideline of the theory of how fengshui theory classify the measures of space and time, and by operating fengshui ritual in the many aspects of daily life for a long time. In this concept system, the human beings concept"determined by fate, luck can be made"master the concepts in technical levels, including the concept of space center, the concept of left superior right inferior, the concept of time circulation, the concept of different nature time, and the concept of tradition time. The relations between the concept of human beings, the concept of time, and the concept of space are commanding---being commanded, general---part, main---subordinate. The concepts are related and influenced with each other closely. The two aspects"obvious outside"and"unobvious inside"can be the token of fengshui belief culture in pursuit of harmony between human beings and nature.
