Solfeggio is an important basic course of skill and theory. But because of the limitations of teaching facilities and the effect of traditional teaching model, the result of solfeggio teaching in colleges and universities is not satisfactory. In the present variety of music settings the solo tone, the limited audio materials and ear training can no longer meet the students' need. The students can understand chord connection, but they can not deal with the relative piano works; They can recognize the rhythm produced by piano, but they can not recognize the rhythm in music works; they can take down the staff of two parts of melody produced by piano, but they can not recognize two parts of melody in music works. All this shows that the traditional teaching model of solfeggio is separated from the present multimedia settings of music.With the development of the times, the varieties of music cultures and students' absorbing abilities are far beyond the imagination of educators in the present multimedia music settings. The wide use of multimedia technologies and the rapid development of computer music and MIDI technology have extended a new field for the innovation of music major in normal universities. With its' effect, the traditional teaching model of solfeggio in normal universities is also changing. This paper has discussed how to carry out solfeggio teaching in normal universities and suggested some new solutions.This paper consists of five parts. The first part states the present solfeggio teaching in normal universities. By carrying out a lot of investigations, it has given a rather thorough analysis of the present situation of solfeggio teaching in normal universities in our country and put forward some existing problems in the traditional teaching model of solfeggio and the necessity of innovating the teaching model of solfeggio. The second part discusses the advantages and setting up of teaching in multimedia settings. Based on the above existing problems in the traditional teaching model of solfeggio the second part suggests that the advantages of music teaching in multimedia settings should be made use of to make up for the shortcomings in the traditional solfeggio teaching model. It also suggests we should build up multimedia classrooms for students to self study; set up a data bank of teaching resources for teachers and a data bank of test questions online to realize the sharing of resources. The third part discusses how to carry out solfeggio teaching in normal universities. The fourth part emphasizes the application of two kinds of softwares in solfeggio teaching in normal universities and makes some comments on them. The last part discusses the limitations of solfeggio teaching in multimedia settings and suggested some solutions to the problem.
