This paper is about the research on the structures, meanings and ways of expressions of the geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives in both Chinese and Vietnamese. This research is based on the former researches related as well as the author's own experience. The research method is to translate and Contrastive analyze the geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives in both Chinese and Vietnamese. It is found that there are geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives in Chinese and Vietnamese, which have similar meanings, while the ways of expressions in the two languages are quite different though. It means that the geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives in the two languages are not exactly the same. Those not having counterparts are more than those having counterparts. Thus, Vietnamese have some other supplementary ways to express the meaning of the geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives in Chinese sufficiently. The similarities and differences among the structures, meanings, and ways of expressions of the same words in the two languages cause a lot of problems to the use of geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives in Chinese for Vietnamese students. This thesis tries to show the similarities and differences in the meanings of the geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives in Chinese and Vietnamese. It also gives plenty of examples of the use of geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives in Chinese and classifies the corresponding ways of expressions in Vietnamese.Based on the revelation of the corresponding ways of expressions of geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives in Chinese and Vietnamese, this paper gives examples from the normative version of "The classic works of Luxun" and "Yell when you are happy"and points out some questions and skills when translating, hoping to offer some help to Vietnamese students in translating the geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives between Chinese and Vietnamese and using such forms in Chinese.Moreover, this thesis talks about the result of a questionnaire on the errors of the usage of geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives of Vietnamese students. It indicates that the meanings of geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives in Chinese are not too hard. But Vietnamese students are easy to make mistakes when using them due to the ignoring of teaching plus the influence of their mother tongue. After knowing the errors, several suggestions on teaching geminating forms of monosyllabic adjectives to Vietnamese students are given according to the students' specialties, hoping to offer some help to teaching Chinese to Vietnamese students.
