Film is not only a typical form of art most people love to see and hear, but also one of the most influential media in the society. As an important part of the film, film title is of informative expressive and aesthetic functions, but film title translation is no easy task. Although quite a few translators have put forward different kinds of translating techniques in this field, we are still lacking a series of scientific and instructive translation theories and principles to guide us in the concrete translating practice.Proceeding from the functions and features of the film title, the writer analyzes the condition of film title translation and the main deficiency of the translation strategies applied in film title translation. On this basis, the writer proposes the theory of translator's subjectivity, and tries to settle the problems in film title translation under the guide of the theory. By comparison of the functions of film titles and the characteristics of translator's subjectivity, the writer draws a conclusion: it is feasible and reasonable to apply the theory of translator's subjectivity in the guide of film title translation. The writer analyzes how the theory of translator's subjectivity exerts its instructive role in the concrete process of film title translation, including the process of understanding the original, choosing suitable translation strategies and producing the final text. At last, the writer demonstrates the use of the theory in film title translation by means of case study, and hopes that translator's subjectivity can serve as an instructive theory for film title translation.
