Changyi Dialect belongs to Jiaoliao Mandarin, which is an important branch of Mandarin. At present, there is no systemic research about Changyi Dialect. The Local Gazetteer of Changyi only mentioned some simple aspects about Phonology, vocabulary and grammar. This article is a result of comprehensive investigation and study about Phonology. It shows the basic features of Changyi Dialect. In sum, describing Changyi Dialect can offer material to the research of Shandong dialect and can offer contemporary material to the research of Chinese dialects and the history of Chinese language in a deeper step.This thesis, which is composed of eight sections, provides a comprehensive description of the Changyi Dialect and furthermore explores certain important phonetic problems.Section One: Preface. It explains the general situation of geography, historical evolution and population of Chngyi city; the dialect branch which Changyi Dialect belongs to and its basic features; the phonetic symbols and main informants.Section Two: The phonetic system of single characters and its major peculiarities. It describes in detail the phoneme characters of Changyi Dialect in consonants, vowels, tones and the basic features of phonology.Section Three: The changes of pronunciation. The tone sandhi of disyllabic word, the neutral tone and erhua.Section Four: Polyphonetic characters. It mainly contains the polyphoneme between literal reading and colloquial reading; the polyphoneme between the new variety and the old variety.Section Five: The comparison between Changyi Dialect and Common language.Section Six: The comparison between Changyi Dialect and the phonology of Guangyun.Section Seven: The evolution of mediaeval Zhi-Zhuang-Zhang groups in Changyi Dialect.Section Eight: Syllabary. It contains about 3500 characters of Changyi Dialect.
