Agricultural disciplines in colleges undertake the duty of training high-level agricultural talents. Under the current binary economic system, the facts of relatively backward economics, hard working environments in rural area make most of college students in agricultural disciplines chose to stay in city but are reluctant to work in rural area. However the competition of obtaining employment is very severe and the demands of relative agricultural industries for employments are tending to be saturated in city. Accordingly, most of college students in agricultural disciplines are hard to find the jobs relative to their majors. Being affected by such employment situation, many college students in agricultural disciplines show low enthusiasm to their majors and are lack of learning interests and motives. As a result, the phenomenon of underachievement for college students in agricultural disciplines objectively exists.Academic stress is the important factor causing psychological problems of college students. Accordingly, the mental health problems of college students with underachievement deserve attention. Self worth pervasively impacting people's cognition, emotion and behavior, is one of important factors affecting individual psychological health. In this paper, the psychological characters of college students of underachievement in agricultural disciplines were studied with the view of self-worth to provide references for the psychological health education to college students of underachievement in agricultural disciplines.On the definition of underachievement, the study employed the Adolescent Self Worth Scale edited by Huang Xiting to analyze the self worth characters of underachievement college students in agricultural disciplines by the comparisons of learning excellence and underachievemental students in agricultural disciplines, underachievemental students among agriculture, arts and science disciplines, as well as underachievemental students in agricultural disciplines with different sexes, grades, origins and economic conditions. Meanwhile, Perceived Social Support Scale edited by Zimet was utilized to study the effects of social supports with different origins on underachievemental students in agricultural disciplines and conduct correlation analysis between the perceived social support and self worth for underachievemental students in agricultural disciplines in order to reinforce the social support for underachievemental students in agricultural disciplines and enhance their self worth, as well as help they grow up healthily.By means of questionnaire and dada analysis, some conclusions were drawn in the paper as fowling.Significantly differences existed on self-worth between the underachievemental and the learning excellence of college students in agricultural disciplines. College students of learning excellence in agricultural disciplines had significant higher perceived teacher support and perceived colleague support than college students of underachievemental in agricultural disciplines, however, no significant differences existed on perceived home support between the college students of learning excellence and underachievement in agricultural disciplines.Significant difference existed on self-worth among the college students of underachievement in different disciplines. College students of underachievement in agricultural disciplines had significant lower perceived home support than those in arts and science disciplines, but there were no significant difference on perceived teacher support and perceived student support among them.Significant difference existed among the college students of underachievement in agricultural disciplines with different grades and home economic conditions. As far as the special self worth was concerned, the significant difference only presented among the college students of underachievement in agricultural disciplines with different sexes and origins.The college students of underachievement in agricultural disciplines with different grades and sexes exhibited significant differences on perceived home support and perceived classmate support. However, no significant differences existed on perceived teacher support among the college students of underachievement with different backgrounds. Different perceived home support significantly existed among the college students of underachievement with economic conditions. Significant difference existed among the college students of underachievement with different origins on the perceived social support in different dimensions. Meanwhile, attentions must be paid that the scores of perceived teacher support were very low for them.Significantly positive correlation existed between the perceived social support and self-worth for college students of underachievement in agricultural disciplines.To help the college students of underachievement in agricultural disciplines understand themselves objectively and better adapt themselves to college living, the paper investigate the methods to reinforce the social support and enhance self-worth for college students of underachievement in agricultural disciplines from the following aspects: reinforcing interaction and optimizing relationship between teachers and students; culturing students' interests and guiding learn on majors; offering more help to students and let them feel collective warmth; conducting psychological consults and promoting them grow up healthily; forming good style of study and building learning atmospheres. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | College students in agricultural disciplines, underachievement, self-worth, social support | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
