The Study On Self-esteem Of Vocational & Technical College Students And Related Factors In The East Of Guangdong Province

ObjectiveObjective:Self-esteem is the individual's sense of self-worth and the emotional experience. Self-esteemcan affect student's cognition, motive, emotion and social behaviors. Self-esteem have closelyrelationship with student's academic achievement and psychologically healthy. This studyanalyzed self-esteem state of the students in vocational colleges and the factors related with selfesteem.Methods:701 students from vocational colleges were tested by Self-Esteem Scale, Social Support RatingScale and EPQ-RSC. All data were analyzed by SPSS for Windows 13.0.Results:1. Self-esteem level of students in vocational colleges is lower than the students in ordinarycolleges and universities2. Self-esteem level of boys is higher than girls in vocational colleges.3. Vocational college students'self-esteem is not related with specialty, grade and parenteducation4. Vocational college student'self-esteem is influenced by family location, family economicstatus and mother's occupation5. Social support and self-esteem were significantly related, the different levels of social supportcorresponding to different levels of self-esteem.6. Students with different levels of self-esteem have the remarkable difference in personalitytraits.Conclusion:Students from vocational colleges in the east of Guangdong province have lower level of selfesteemthan students form ordinary universities and colleges; Family's economic status, family location, gender, mother's occupation may affect the self-esteem of students in vocationalcolleges; Personality traits and social support have close contacting with self-esteem.
