Motif in narrative literature has a comparatively fixed image, description method or narrative structure. It reflects a common psychological imagination of human's reaction to the world and their expression of feelings and thoughts. Motifs differ in quality and quantity. The motif phenomena in Chinese literature history is due to a Chinese family complex as a collective unconscious historical sedimentation and development, and due to the special functions of structure and narration of family motif itself, which further promote the prosperity of family motif phenomena. A narrative model, created by A Dream in a Red Mansion on family motifs, enlightens many modern writers' inspiration. The influence manifests in motif structure, image creation, artistry and poetic realm. Currant fashions and the individuality of writers also make modern writers innovate and further develop the modules of family motif novels, which can be categorized as tender type, rebel type and callous type. The development procedure reflects the writers' cultural standpoint in first half of 20th century. The family motif phenomenon is an independent literature phenomenon with wholesome meanings. It displays the ultra purpose philosophy meaning of life. History shows itself that creation can not be made without referring to tradition.
