Text Analysis In C-E Translation Of Scenic Spots Introductions From Functionalist Perspectives

Scenic spots introductions are the most important carriers of tourism information, which are often used directly by tourism products promoters and potential consumers. Qualified scenic spots introductions can not only provide detailed tourism information but also attract more tourists. English versions of Chinese scenic spots introductions, of course, should achieve the same aims, because it is the translated versions of tourism texts that have become the critical approaches to spread Chinese culture to the world and promote the development of Chinese tourism industry.In order to disclose and classify the problems which exist in C-E translation of scenic spots introductions, the author first lists the difference between Chinese and English scenic spots introductions in terms of extra and intratextual factors, analyzing from functionalist perspectives and Nord's translation-oriented text analysis model. In the following, the author further pinpoints the translation problems in the levels of linguistics and culture and also gives relevant strategies and revised translation.Two cases of studies are applied to explicit the relation between translation and the text-analysis model. In these two cases, the macro-analysis is carried out mainly in the aspects of text composition and text functions according to the translation-oriented model. Based on that the translator can better grasp the overall structure and gain the general requests for the translation.In the concluding part the author points out that translation is not just a job of language transfer according to the theory of functionalist translation. While translating, the translator must first make sure the translation brief and consider the translation skopos and target readers' situation. And then make selections from the information which comes from the source language text and form a new offer of information in the target language. It is the analysis of extra and intratextual factors such as text function, text composition that can allow the translator to decide whether or not these elements are helpful or acceptable for the desired aims of TT.
