For visitors, scenic spots introductions act as one of the most important channelsto obtain information of tourist attractions. To be specific, scenic spots introductionscan provide them with relevant background knowledge and enhance theircomprehension of the cultural connotations of tourist attractions, making their visitmeaningful and rewarding. In this sense, the proper translation of scenic spotsintroductions bears great significance to foreign visitors. But there still exist variouskinds of errors in the C-E translation of scenic spots introductions at home and veryfew researches have touched upon this topic. With regard to the above facts, it isnecessary to carry out a relatively systematic study on the C-E translation of scenicspots introductions.Since the day of its proposal, Eco-translatology has been employed to conductresearches by dozens of postgraduates and doctors, who have verified the feasibilityand practicability of this theory. In the light of this, Eco-translatology is employed inthis paper to study the basic process of C-E translation of scenic spots introductions. Itis hoped that the current research will provide translators with a clearer view towardstranslation steps and dimensions and the translators can work out a target text ofhigher degree of adaptive selection under the macroscopic guidance ofEco-translatology and the microscopic restriction of case analysis. The basictranslating process consists of three phases: before translating, during translating andafter translating. In the case of scenic spots introductions under the guidance ofEco-translatology, before translating, a qualified translator is supposed to haveawareness of the specific translational eco-environment, getting to know the basicfunction of the introductions, the different features of these texts in English andChinese as well as the characteristics of target addresses, etc; during translating, thetranslator should try to make adaptive selections and transformations from linguistic, cultural, communicative and other dimensions under the guidance of translationprinciple; after translating, the translator is supposed to evaluate and improve his/her translated versions using the evaluation system of Eco-translatology.Through the analysis of translation examples, it is concluded that the process oftranslating is a complex one involving a variety of choices. In other words, translators’adaptation and selection activities run through the whole process of translation.Translators should strive for multi-dimensional adaptations at various levels of thetranslational eco-environment and then make adaptive selections and transformationscorrespondingly. The translation strategies adopted partially embody the translators’consciousness of the translational eco-environment while the improper translations aremostly due to the translators’ lack of awareness of specific translationaleco-environment as well as their poor adaptive transformations. When it comes to thetranslation of scenic spots introductions, translators should try to strengthen theiroverall consciousness of the translational eco-environment of the specific translationtask. He/she is supposed to know about the immovability of sign’s position, thefeatures of the introductory texts in English and Chinese as well as the characteristicsof the readership. Meanwhile, they should correspondingly adjust their selectionactivities, especially in linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions, so as toadapt to the specific translational eco-environment and produce target texts acceptedby the foreign visitors. Last but not the least, proper evaluation can better improve thetranslations of scenic spots introductions, making them better meet the requirements ofthe translational eco-environment.
