On the context of modern literature culture, Lin Yu-tang's concept of leisure literature and composing, not only had edification to modern people's life, but also promoted the booming of modern leisure literature. On those basis, this atricle is completely and systematically trying to make a more elaborate all-round way study on the concept of leisure literature and creative of Lin Yu-tang.This article put Lin's prose into the whole context of leisure culture, during classifying the leisure and cultural and interrelated theory at all times and in all lands, this issue was raised - the concept of leisure and recreational literature of Lin Yu-tang. This article not only held that leisure was a state of life that it is positive to enrich the meaning of life, but also leisure was a kind of aesthetic judgment which led people to practice the ideals of self-development. On those bases, the author thought Lin's leisure literature composing was such a guiding force to life.As for the formation of Lin's concept of leisure literature, this article ascribed it to the effect of many "joint efforts" which included the family background, childhood experiences, growing experience, influence of the hometown landscape, the basis of Confucian philosophy of Taoism, Christianity cultural impact and so on. Among them, the Lin's ethos and the spirit of freedom acted as its internal motivation. On the basis of this, it was the role of internal cause in the "joint efforts". Further, this paper believes that the formation of Lin's concept of leisure literature with the internal cause of free spirit and help of joint efforts from various factors had the core of the "art of living." Promote an art of life or the life of the arts. The artistic life can be summed up as harmony in order based on the natural and cultural humor and feeling attitude towards life, the highest level to achieve putting art and life together. The external representation was "self-centered, the leisurely style" and "intelligential, moral integrity, insight and leisure". Accordingly, the art performance of the leisure literary appeared with characteristics of chatting with humorous words and harmonious and pursuiting of aesthetics.Finally, the article indicated dialectically that Lin's concept of leisure literature and creative not only had some kind of advance but also a positive meaning of construction on literary and cultural, although with its little limitations. Lin Yu-tang's leisure literature appeared to be out of date, more especially in the 1930's and 1940's with specific historical context. But on the development of modern literature, Lin's leisure literature was the right time, and leaded the fashion trend.
