| Different from non-literature translation, literature translation goes beyond the semantic translation. That the conveying of the literature's charm (also called the aesthetic value)in translation is deemed to be the key point in literature translation has been discussed and studied during the history of the translation theory and practice. From the standpoint of translation aesthetics, the representation of literature's charm in the course from the source language to the target language is the process of aesthetic re-creation. This thesis takes the beauty of the dialogues in novel, which is one of the most important forms of literature, as the breakthrough point to exposit the steps and main points in the process of aesthetic re-creation.In the literature aesthetics, the literature works are aesthetic objects and the readers are aesthetic subjects. The translators are the special aesthetic subjects, for they shoulder the tasks of investigating the aesthetic values of the source text and of re-creating those values into the target text for target readers. In this thesis, some principles are proposed for translators to utilize if possible. Then two steps in the course of translation (comprehension and expression) are mentioned to probe into the process of re-creating the aesthetic values. In the step of expression, the aesthetic values of dialogues are viewed as the combination of the beauty in both forms and contents, are analyzed in detail with small classified points (such as, the point in the level of sound in the beauty of forms) and, at the same time, are compared and criticized on these points among three different translation versions. In the end, the conclusion is made on three aspects of the re-creation of the beauty of dialogues in novels'translation: the relationship between the aesthetic subjects and objects; the relationship between the comprehension and expression; the relationship between the beauty of forms and contents. While the aesthetic values of aesthetic objects are re-created only through the work of comprehension and expression by aesthetic subjects, the integration of semantic information and aesthetic information is necessary both in forms and contents... |
