Research indicates that the seaweed-house had been the main and the most favorite house of people who lived at the seaside of Weihai since the New Stone Age. It was the world old specimen of folk house in the coastal area of. Weihai. It had great interests with people of this area in aspects such as multiply of human, change of nature and society, subrogation of dynasties. It had great interests with developments of politics, economy, culture, coast defense and municipal and rural construction of this area. Every seaweed-house had its own lively story, every seaweed-house witnessed a stretch of history. Specially both in form and connotation, this kind of folk house which produced from the special natural environment, special ecological environment and special humane features of the seaside of Weihai had been a very precious cultural heritage. But, now the ecological chain which related to the seaweed-house rapidly disappears for the attack from city construction and modernization and it is threatened with complete extinction. The best way to protect this precious cultural heritage and put it into full play in building socialism new country sides and ecological cities is to build ecological museums for the seaweed-house which have double function—protection and exploit. By this way, on the one hand, we can protect this precious cultural heritage, people who lived at the seaside of Weihai can rest feeling s on the seaweed-house, we can maintain a breed or a specimen of treasury of cultural heritage in human habitation. And on the other, we can bring it to a great height of development and take advantage of it. Protection is the foundation and measures, it has epoch-making meanings. This paper at first expounds the basic situation of the seaweed-house in distribution, building materials, building structure of monomers, compound composition and building technique, then discourses the principles and ways of protection materially and strictly and tries to find proper ways to protect the traditional folk house.This thesis consists of introduction, text and epilogue, almost 30000 words.The introduction mainly discuses the meaning of the chosen subject, current situation of study and basic train of thought.The text contains five parts. The first part simply introduces the formation time and historical range area of the sea-weed house in Weihai by describing the ancient rudiment of the sea-weed house and using diagrammatic presentations.The second part introduces building structures and techniques of the seaweed-house in terms of architecture by combining words and diagrammatic presentations. It introduces the customs of building the seaweed-house. It analyzes the causes and arrangements of the seaweed-house and the current arrangement of the extant seaweed-house.It introduces different building materials of the sea-weed house in different periods and introduces building materials of the previous period of Qing dynasty, the later period Qing dynasty, the period of Republic of China and period after the building of the People's Republic of China .It tells us the formation and development history of the sea-weed house.
