Multi-media in college English teaching will be widely-applied in the 21st century, an age of computer. Using multi-media in college English teaching provides a good opportunity to facilitate English communication, broaden learners' horizons, and enhance the teaching efficiency. It is desirable for the learners to develop their associative thinking and build their cognitive structure. Although multi-media teaching possesses these unique advantages, it is double-edged. There are still many limitations and misuses. Having a better understanding of it and making an attempt to improve it are the urgent tasks. Analyzing the real situation of present multi-media English teaching in college, this paper intends to seek how to carry out the classroom teaching from a new perspective within the multi-media environment.As a new teaching principle and teaching procedure, Task-based Language Teaching Approach is gradually recognized and accepted by most English instructors. English Curriculum Standard recommends implementing Task-based Language Teaching Approach in college English teaching so as to do things with words and foster students' comprehensive competence of using the language. In this thesis the writer aims at talking about Task-based Language Teaching Approach and application of it in the multi-media environment.The thesis consists of three parts:Part one puts forward a way to improve students' English level—the application of Task-based Language Teaching Approach in the multi-media environment, describes the theoretical foundation of Task-based Approach in detail and explores the study state of Task-based Approach both at home and abroad.Part two discusses the application of Task-based Language Teaching Approach in the multi-media classroom teaching and explains the writer's study on Task-based Approach illustrating the effectiveness and existing problems of its use in practice.Part three summarizes the whole thesis and warns Task-based Language Teaching Approach can't be used randomly and mechanically in the multi-media environment and teachers should develop text research and find out a successful way to implement Task-based Language Teaching Approach in the multi-media classroom teaching environment. At the same time, there are some problems to be further explored.
