A Political Allegory Passing Through Time And Space

It is necessary for us to use the parallel reading method to consolidate the understanding of the novel. When we are considering the descriptions about the animals in the novel"The Animals Farm"by the English writer George Aoweier and those in the novel"The Life-Death Fatigue"by the Chinese writer Mo Yan, we can get an insight into the deep thought connotation.。We can conduct an effortless observation and analysis of the two novels. However, if we can make a parallel research on the two novels, we can infer may interesting propositions .Though they were written by two different writers who are living far away from each other at half a century apart,, the implications of two novels are interconnected. Different in the complication and depth of the content as well as in the degrees of humor, they are interrelated with each other in innumerable ways.Written in the year of 1945, a time when World War II was just over ,when the communism and the capitalism were confronting with each other, the novel"The Animals Farm"arouse many people's attention. It mainly deal with a rebellion story of the animals on a farm. All the animals led by an animal team such central pig characters as"Napoleon", "Snowball"and"Shriller"have driven the former master Jones out of the farm. However, there are some splitting political viewpoints between the leaders later on and a pig was driven out of the farm."Napoleon"got control of the farm . At last, the pigs seemed to have a reconciliation with people and they formed an alliance. It is apparent that such a"good"relation is not reliable enough. The novel of"The Life-Death Fatigue"was created in 2006 and it deals with a 50-year history of the farm life in China through the year of 1950 to the year of 2000.It focuses on the serious theme of land , describing the relationships between farmers, animals and land. As the hero of the novel ,Gong Ximen , the narrator of the novel has experienced"samsara of six times",First being a donkey, and then being a bull , a pig, a dog , a monkey, finally reborn into a human being.The Animal Farm is a political novel in the allegory form. By means of metaphors it describes the occurrence of revolution as well as the betray of the revolution. Of course the cruelty in the revolution was also depicted. The old boar Magger has brought the dream of freedom and equality to the manor. Under the leadership of the two boars Bosno and Napoleon, the group of animals joined together to drive the people out of the manor. Therefore the freed animals turned into the masters of their own destiny and set up an animal land featured by freedom, equality and democracy.The symbolic meanings in Mo Ya's"The Life-Death Fatigue"are very remarkable . However, is it true for us to draw the conclusion from one aspect by saying ,from the symbolic viewpoint,that Simon is a representative of the landlord wronged by history to death and Blue-face represents individualism and compromise with the historical progress, which is canceling the ambiguity of the event itself and the complexity of humanity.To start with , we see the symbolic meaning of the land. In"The Life-Death Fatigue", animals were deeply attached to the land and they were personalized for a small portion of profiteers and land spoliators None of the animals in the"The Life-Death Fatigue"are willing to leave their land. Animals want to pursue their own rights, which is a universal political allegory. While in"The Animals Farm", animals referred to something specific and their political symbolic meaning was overstated and received preemption and suppresses, while the symbolic meanings in"The Life-Death Fatigue"are vague that land is important for both the people and other animals living in the world and the weaker class will do their best to rebel against the expropriators. Both of the two novels deals with the animals'attachments to land and their yearning for land.Secondly , the demand for democracy. Democracy refers to a national system in which national affairs are jointly governed by a certain groups of classes in accordance with the equal principle and the minority agreeing with the majority. Under the democratic systems, the people have highest sovereignty surpassing the legislator and the government. Although there are some slight discrepancies existing in different democratic governments in society, the democratic government distinguishes itself from other forms of government for its unique principles and operation way. By democracy we mean a government with all the citizens directly or through the representative they have freely voted exercise power and rights of the citizen and fulfil the responsibilities. It is a series of principles and behavior patterns to protect the freedom of human beings, a systemized embodiment of freedom Democracy is guided on the principle of minority agreeing to the majority while respecting individuals and minority's rights at the same time. In"The Animals Farm"the criticize of the totalitarianism is the appeal for the democracy , while in"The Life-Death Fatigue"the mockery of egalitarian principle of distribution upsurged in the cultural revolution is the affirmation of the individual voices .It is a tragedy for democracy that someone deprived other people's personal rights with the aid of collective or system's authority and the existence of democracy was camouflaged .Thirdly , the fighting for the rights and the loss of rights .Power,if losing its justice , will transformed into a complete violence . The struggling and fighting for power was remarkable in the"Animals Farm".The fighting among animals is not inferior to that between people It is through such literature description that the fighting between people can be shown to the public .Otherwise, people usually refuse to talk about their own diseases. The boar led the other animals to overthrow the rule of human beings and gained freedom .On the other hand, the prescient boar , when confronted with the problem of autonomous governance ,learned to be greedy from people .In the course of the pig leading other animals to realize their autonomous governance,the courage ,power and wisdom displayed by Pig 16 in the power fighting descriptions in the"The Life-Death Fatigue"can be compared with any statesmen.Last but not least, the pursuit of freedom and the existence of the freedom. In both of the above-mentioned novels , animals and the human beings are already melted into one, animals are completely equal to human beings instead of being the subordinates of the latter.The former and the latter have created a metaphor together about the nature of human beings'survival in an era as well as the nature of mind. Every animal in the novels is a metaphor , compared to the human beings being animals themselves . From the bossy boar"Napoleon", the lovely and blindly devoted chicken, the dog bullying the weak by relying on powerful connections, the uncomplaining horses in the novel "The Animals Farm" to the barbarism of donkeys in the"The Life-Death Fatigue"we can see animals have some universal natures with human beings. Moreover , the humanity displayed in the animals can be much more powerful than that displayed in human beings themselves.It is of great realistic and historical significance for us to construe the two novels in a parallel way. Both of them have hidden or obvious implications. It is truism to say all our construal ,suspects and search for the gestalt picture of the history and its development are impossible to realize .However, history can be retrievable through the few words in the literature text with the aid of imagination and simulation to depict history again. Though we are on the alert over the literature and we are too harsh on the literature in the same way, literature is not history after all. These two books deals with the fable-like descriptions of the real situations in politics . We can construe their hidden allegory factors from the viewpoint of the land conquest land struggle, the search and loss of freedom, the gaining and loss of power, the search for survival and the destroy . More important of all, we need to get enlightments realistically and spiritually on them.
