This thesis is intended to discuss the syllabus design of Automobile English. This research questions are as follows:1) Is ESP course(automobile direction) really needed on the part of students of higher vocational and technical education? 2) What is the best English curriculum for the students in higher vocational and technical education? 3) What English language skills are expected to be improved by students? 4) What are students' views of ESP course design in terms of objectives,materials, teachers,teaching methods and evaluation?The present research is designed to be conducted in three stages,which lasts 3 years, from 2005 to 2008.The subjects were 90 students majoring in automobile English in Jilin Vocational and Technical Institute of Communication.Besides,20 teachers teaching motor technology in the Institute were interviewed and 30 employees were interviewed over the phone.The data were collected regarding the students' requirements for the course,teaching materials and teaching methods through needs analysis.The data regarding the teaching contents and materials were also collected through interviews with the teachers and employees of the industry.The syllabus and teaching materials were designed according to the collected data.
