The whole society pays emphasis on the development of national education of colleges .The care attracts some parts of civilian investment which have been used to develop private colleges quickly.In some terms, private colleges'education become efficient supplement of public colleges ,even become the powerful competitive opponents of the students origin .In addition ,there are complete educational gradations in private colleges such as preparatory course ,national-planned training gradation ,self-learning undergraduate course and self-learning training gradation,which can provide more opportunities of education for more people and supply the short educational resource of the country .In the term ,private colleges promote the step for fair of education.However ,we should evaluate private education from two sides .Because there is no enough time , money or experiences for private colleges to develop ,also no formal management system ,regulation and talented persons ,and our society don't speak highly of it even admit its contribution ,so to some degree the elements above restrain the development of private colleges .At the same time ,there are important negative effect on the students'mental health who learn in this kind of school .In addition ,the level of study achievement and quality of part of the students who study in private colleges are worse than the students who learn in public colleges ,so the effect on education is not satisfied. Especially, the elements above course the quantity and degree of mental problems of the private colleges'students going up .So the professional researchers begin to pay more emphasis on these problems.Self-esteem and mental health have always been the important content which psychological researches .As the quantity of college students becomes larger, the degree of our care becomes deep .Because college students receive well-education .They are the representatives of the social culture .They are also the fresh activists of social construction, the condition of their self-esteem and mental health will put important effects on the whole society. The condition of their self-esteem and mental health can also effect the students'personal health .So a lot of professionals and researchers pay attention to the condition of the level of self-esteem and mental health of colleges students in order to discover the conclusion that they are related closely with the experience of their life as an adults, the level of college-education and the environment of their colleges.As the private colleges come out, based on their own special conditions such as the different resources and educational environment they can offer to their students, make the students become different from the public colleges'students .The differences between the two kinds of students ,the different features which the private colleges students have become another emphasis which the psychological experts want to research.This research choose Rosenberg'self-esteem scale and The self-report symptom inventory ,symptom check list 90 to investigate the students both in public colleges and in private colleges .After obtaining the data at first hand ,correlation analysis ,use t-test and manova though Spss to put the data in order and analyze the data for getting the conclusions as the following:1.Self-esteem and mental health of college students have close relationship ,self- esteem is the core of mental health;2.There are obvious differences on the level of self-esteem between the public college'students and the private college'students;3.There are obvious differences on the level of mental health between the public college'students and the private college'students.
