Study On The Artistic Features Of Late Tang Dynasty Style

Late Tang Dynasty Style is the poetic style during the Late Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties Period featured with austereness and exquisiteness.Academic circle has long focused on the study of Jia Dao and the poetic history of Late Tang Dynasty,Five Dynasties Period and Song Dynasty,especially on the influnce of Jia Dao's works on the later poetic style.However, a comprehensive understanding of the connotation of "Late Tang Dynasty Style" and a further explore into its artistic features as a whole are still absent.Therefore,this thesis aims to provide a thorogh analysis of the artistic features of "Late Tang Dynasty Style",including its poetic features,topics,intentions,word-choosing,syntax and basic style,etc,on the basis of a sound understanding of how the concept of"Late Tang Dynasty Style" came into being and its connotation by treating it as an independent object among relative poems and books on poetics.Chapter one is to define "Late Tang Dynasty Style".It went through Dali and Yuanhe period and began to take shape from Yao Jia,by the Late Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties Period had it been formed with certain features.Chapter two traces the development of Late Tang Dynasty Style,highlighting the role Yao Jia played in the process of forming Late Tang Dynasty Style and geographical distribution of poets.Chapter three summarizes the artistic features of Late Tang Dynasty Style.The essence of Late Tang Dynasty Style is austereness and exquisiteness,which was lead from Yao Jia's influnce and more importantly from its components' features,that is the critical feature of Late Tang Dynasty Style.They are:poets longing to be a hermit and topics tending to represent austereness and hermit spirit which differ Late Tang Dynasty Style from other poetic styles;exquisitness from the comination of elaborate word-choosing,idea-scheming, five-character "regulated" verse and Seven-Character Jue Ju.This chapter discuss nearly all the aspects of Late Tang Dynasty Style,such as poetic features,topics,intentions,word-choosing, syntax and basic style,etc.To sum up,Late Tang Dynasty Style,taken shape during Late Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties Period,is a unique existence in poetry history.
