This paper focuses on the semantic relation of modifier-head construction. Based on the analysis of the structure set of the grammar, the author attempts to classified the supernormal matching of the modifier-head construction into ten categories,and explain them in the perspective of metaphor and semantic oriention.This paper mainly consists of five chapters.Chapter 1,the author reviews the relevant studies and puts forward the point of view of this research on the basis of them. Chapter 2, on the basis of previous discussion, the author will discuss the semantic relation between the center word and the noun attribute, verb attribute, pronoun attribute, adjective attribute and quantifier attribute. Chapter 3 on the basis of the semantic analysis in Chapter 2, the author point out the inconsistency between the grammatical structure and semantic structure, namely the supernormal matching of the modifier-head construction. It can be divided into ten categorys. It is not difficult to find out that the supernormal matching of the modifier-head construction can be explained in the perspective of metaphor and semantic orientation. Chapter 4 from the perspective of the metaphor, the author will discuss the causes and the function of the supernormal matching of modifier-head construction. Chapter 5 will attempt to analyze from the perspective of semantic orientation. Firstly, discuss the definition of the semantic orientation. Secondly, the semantic orientation of the attribute is analyzed. Finally, the reasons for their generation is analyzed.
