Zen Buddhism is the product of the sinicization of Buddhism with typical Chinese characteristics.The maxim of Zen composed of sixteen characters:"Zen Buddhism is not recorded with written words.The teaching method,which comes to the point immediately,can not be imparted to others.One who sees his own nature can become Buddha",makes Zen Buddhism unique and thought-provoking.The thesis is divided into six parts on the characteristics of the educational idea of Zen Buddhism as well as its modern sense.Part One of the thesis introduces the reasons and literature review of the research.Part Two introduces the theoretical foundation for educational psychology of Zen Buddhism from the perspective of philosophy.The basic meaning of Zen is the focus of the introduction."Inwardness theory" is the theoretical basis for meditation methods.The means of practicing meditation is "introspective view of the heart".There are three key points for self-cultivation.That is,"Purity,Animitta,Impermanence ".Part Three takes "the Ten Ox Herding Pictures" for example and introduces the psychological changes in the process of learning.After that the unique study method of Zen Buddhism -Travelling Far and Wide is introduced.Part Four introduces the educational purposes and the most unique teaching methods of Zen Buddhism.Part Five introduces the characteristics of educational psychology in Zen Buddhism:the principle of not being recorded with written words,the principle of speculation and imagination,without telling directly,non-logical thinking, the thinking process of self-cultivation,the principle of practice and the unique teacher-student relationship.This part is the essence of education in Zen Buddhism.Through the interview method and induction method,Part Six comes to the conclusion:the thought of educational psychology in Zen Buddhism is worthy of our development because of its value of direction.
