| This thesis is intended to explore the relations between translators' literary writings and their translation works from the perspective of intertextuality. Since the term "intertextuality" was introduced into translation studies, it has been developed into two directions: practical and theoretical. The practical direction is led by Hatim and Mason, who proposed ways of identifying and transferring intertextuality references from source text to target text. The other direction draws near to deconstruction, where every text is an intertextual absorption and transformation of other texts and history, culture, society, ideology, etc. could all be treated as text. Enlightened by the latter direction, this thesis aims to probe the reflection of intertextual elements such as cultural and historical background, ideology, living environment and translators' literary taste in translators' literary writings and their translation works. For translators who at the same time are writers, their literary writings are supposed to be echoed in their translation works.Bing Xin, a famous woman writer and translator in the 20th century, translated considerable literary works from Asian and African countries. Bing Xin's favorite writers are Kahlil Gibran and Rabindranath Tagore. Her translations of their works win great popularity, such as "The Prophet", "Sand and Foam", "Gitanjali" and "The Gardener". This thesis examines the reflections of intertextual elements such as cultural and history background, ideology and living environment, and her literary taste in her literary works and her translation of the above four works of Tagore and Gibran and how her literary writings are echoed in her translation in three aspects: cultural and historical marks, writing style and thoughts.By the case study of Bing Xin, it is hoped that the present study will be conducive to the study of the relationship between translators' literary writings and their translation works.
