Among all types of existential sentences, foreign students are very likely to make mistakes in the "V Zhe" existential sentence and are most likely to avoid using this structure.This paper analyzes the characteristics of the "V Zhe" existential sentence in structure and meaning, and finds foreign students' attitudes towards teaching it with cartoons. It explores the teaching effect of this kind of sentence with cartoons in an approach of contrastive language test guided by the theory of constructivism, multimedia learning theory and error analysis. It focuses on the following aspects:i. Foreign students' attitudes and opinions towards teaching with cartoon.ii. The overall effect of teaching the "V Zhe" existential sentence with cartoons in comparison with teaching in a traditional way.iii. The score and correctness rate of a language test for the "V Zhe" existential sentence in comparison with teaching in a traditional way.iv. The error types and amounts in the language test for the "V Zhe" existential sentence in comparison with teaching in a traditional way.The research shows: most foreign students recognize that there are more positive effects to classroom teaching brought by cartoons and it can improve the teaching effect of the "V Zhe" existential sentence. There is significant difference in the overall score of the language test between teaching with cartoons and teaching traditionally, which proves that teaching with cartoons can achieve better scores. As to different types of "V Zhe" existential sentence, teaching with cartoons also brings much better scores than teaching traditionally.In addition, the correctness rate under teaching with cartoons is much higher than that of teaching traditionally for all types of the "V Zhe" existential sentence. The types and amount of errors under teaching with cartoons are much less or lower than those under teaching traditionally. Error Analysis for students of different mother language also finds that both Japanese and Korean students are greatly influenced by their mother languages, Chinese grammar rules and strategies of communication.In sum, teaching with cartoons is very helpful to Chinese classroom teaching for foreign students and it can achieve better teaching effect than teaching in a traditional way.
