The Similaities And Differences Between Shen Cong-wen And Left-wing Writers

The Chinese literature was very vigorous in1930s.There existed a prevailing left-wing literature ,which followed the trend of the times, attentioned to the political function of literature,set off large-scale movement of the Proletarian Revolutionary literature. They had clear class nature and political parties. They had greatly influenced the Chinese literature. At the same time,there existed liberal writers represented as Shen Cong-wen. They paid attentioned to the aesthetic features of literature and promoted the permanent values. Different values lead to fierce debates between the two,which literature work was provided a wealth of literature criticism in space,but also the works of Shen Cong-wen and the similarities and differences between them became an important and necessary study.All this is as a background in this paper. It mainly starts from the works,searched the similarities and differences between Shen Cong-wen and Left-wing writers, which is very important for us to study the writers' concept and literary pursuits, to understand the mental state of the writers in last century.The thesis is divided into five main parts in this paper:Preamble of this article briefly explained the reasons for and significance of the topics.The first part, I introduce the Left-wing literature and Shen Cong-wen at the background of the 1930s. Left-wing writers had a high degree of political sensitivity and consciousness, their works always had a very strong political flavor. But Shen Cong-wen advocatedthe aesthetic propertiesof literary, cared about the form of human life. Their works were full of generous,calm and pristine.The second part, I detailed analized and summarized the differences between Shen Cong-wen and Left-wing writers. There were 4 aspects as following: different purpose and function of literature; different exent to the aesthetic characteristic of the literary; different understanding of current situation;different themes approach to the Revolution. In Part 3, I analized the similarities between the two. Firt of all, they were all concered about the city, cared about the civilizations of the city;second,they both reflected the sufferings of the lower life;they criticized the social life,and both had the revolutionary themes in their works.In the conclusion part, the writer evaluated Shen Cong-wen,reflected the relation between literature and human nature, literature and human politics, adhere creative individuality or loss.
