On College English Differentiating Instruction In Local HEIs

There are about 600 local Higher Education Institutions Providing Degree-level Programs (HEIs),occupying over 85%of the total regular HEIs in China,which constitute the principal part of Chinese Higher Education.Since enrollment expansion of colleges and universities,there are more than 200 local HEIs by the end of 2007.Compared with key colleges and universities,the local HEIs,especially the newly-built ones are generally located in prefecture level cities with unfavorable district environment and schooling conditions,poor candidate quality,which result in college English teaching low level and low efficiency for a long term.Starting from epoch background,reality appeal,students' actuality,etc.,the research considers that executing college English differentiating instruction can teach different students in accordance with their different aptitudes,which will make English talents showing up and students with learning difficulty catching up as soon as possible,to effectively solve time consuming with inefficiency and guillotine problems of college English teaching in local HEIs.Although college English differentiating instruction has been the concerned hot topic recently,the reorganization of uniqueness of local HEIs,particularly of the newly-built local HEIs is in great shortage,while the research history of college English differentiating instruction in local HEIs is still not long with relatively less research achievement and unsound system.Combining the writer's teaching experiences for years,taking a local HEI carrying out college English differentiating instruction as a case,according to the technological routine of detecting problems—analyzing causes—proposing remedies,exerting some discipline theories such as pedagogy,psychology,linguistics,etc.,the research comparatively carefully and painstakingly probes into the relevant issues of college English differentiating instruction in local HEIs,and focuses more on its manipulation mode and practice strategy by means of literature analysis,classroom observation,questionnaire and profound interview,aiming at providing theoretical and practical reference for its better implementation.The paper consists of the following six parts:Part one,Introduction.It mainly expounds the research genesis,combs through the research history and present of college English differentiating instruction at home and abroad,puts forward the involved contents and significances,ideas and methods of the research.Part two,status analysis and problem discovery of college English differentiating instruction in local HEIs.It intends to find out the problems in the process of implementing differentiating instruction in local HEIs,search the sticking points and analyze the reasons via inventory survey.Part three,basic viewpoints explanation of college English differentiating instruction in local HEIs.It chiefly clarifies the related concepts and theoretical foundation of college English differentiating instruction in local HEIs.Part four,discussion about how to construct the mode of college English differentiating instruction in local HEIs.It concentrates on the design framework,procedure and relevant item analysis of college English differentiating instruction in local HEIs,including differentiating instruction target making,teaching objects differentiated,teaching content selection,teaching method study,teaching process organization,teaching scenario creation,teaching evaluation design,and so on.Part five,practical strategy exploration of college English differentiating instruction in local HEIs.Stemming from the fore-mentioned theory composition and status analysis,it emphasizes on some specific strategies of conducting college English differentiating instruction in local HEIs, such as establishing scientific learning goal,setting up positive teacher and student expectancy, develop rich learning resources,creating individualized learning methods,forming available feedback mechanism,etc.Part six,conclusion.It reviews the procedure,content,consequence,significance and anticipates the innovation,deficiency,future inclination of the research as well.
