On the basis of systematic analysis on relevant literature research at home and abroad, thisstudy took “China Academic Journal Full-text Database” and “China Excellent Master and DoctorDissertation Database” in CNKI as the main search platform supplemented by traditional worksand network resources to make an analysis of the published literature about the teaching throughmovies and the college English speaking instruction from2008to2012in detail. On this basis, itpointed out the basic pedagogy and second language acquisition theories of situated cognition,language output hypothesis, communicative language teaching, activity approach and cooperativelearning as the theoretical basis of this study. Taking the action research as the main researchmethod and the literature research and questionnaire as the combined research methods, it mainlyelaborated on these two research questions about how the college English speaking instructionthrough the original English movies would affect the students’ spoken English competences andtheir learning motivations.The ultimate goal of this study is to seek solutions of the college English speaking instructionthrough the original English movies, thus providing the college English speaking instruction withtheoretical and practical references.The thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter1Introduction: It elaborated the research background on the basis of thisstudy, methods and significance.Chapter2Literature Review: It systematically sorted out and analyzed thecurrent research status quo of the teaching through movies and the college Englishspeaking instruction at home and abroad in the way of literature researchmethodology.Chapter3Theoretical Basis: It took the basic pedagogy and second languageacquisition theories of situated cognition, language output hypothesis, communicativelanguage teaching methods, activity approach and cooperative learning as thetheoretical basis of this study.Chapter4Action Research: It mainly focused on how the original Englishmovies affect students’ spoken English learning motivation and English speakingability through two rounds of action research.Chapter5Conclusion: It summarized the main conclusions, innovation and improvements needed in the future of this study.
