Every nation in the world possesses its own relatives' appellations which can reflect the culture connotation of the nation.The systems of relatives' appellations in Chinese and Thai,with the culture connotation they reflect,have their similarities and differences.Hitherto,studies on this field often focus on the comparison of relatives' appellations' system in Chinese and Thai,but few analysis the similarities and differences of the culture connotation they reflect.This thesis first summarizes the origins of these relatives' appellations and their relations with consanguinity and marriage,introduces the features of relatives' appellations in both Chinese and Thai individually,based on which,this thesis probes into the same points they reflect on the culture connotation:Firstly,Chinese and Thai all had the family form of Consanguineous Marriage,Group Marriage,Dual Marriage in history;Secondly, Chinese and Thai all have the consuetude and etiquette of respect the elder and protect the youngster.At last,the comparison reflects some differences in culture and history of China and Thailand:At first,Chinese and Thai people hold the different conception on the disparity of social status between mankind and womankind.At second,the relatives' appellations' system in Chinese expose the deep influence of clanism which is not shown in Thai.At third,influenced by their nation system,there are a special series of relatives' appellations only used for royalty in Thailand.At forth,because of living with Cambodian,Thai has developed a special relatives' appellations' system in Pali and Sanskrit.At fifth,there are a special series of appellations for elder,which is influence by the Buddhism culture,and it's not visible in Chinese.The intension of this thesis is showing people who are interesting in this field a clear summarize of the relatives' appellations' system in Chinese and Thai with the culture connotation they reflect.The author also hopes that the thesis can afford an assist to Thai people who are studying Chinese and the Chinese students who are learning Thai.
