Gender difference is one of the unavoidable topics in various branches of psychological research. Nowadays, the research on reading, at home and abroad, mainly focuses on psychology. As to the gender preference related to the research of reading, which mostly concentrates on motives, interests, time or types of writing in reading, is simply based on the gender difference of readers. Through surveys of college students' daily reading behaviors, the paper studies the gender preference on writers and gender colors in different styles' works. The research consists of three parts: the first part is to compile a questionnaire on college students' gender roles so as to provide an effective tool; the second part is to study college students' gender preference through an experiment, which samples 198 college students through stratified random sampling and acquires 198 copies of valid questionnaires; the third part, which takes up a method of collective questionnaires and acquires 566 copies of valid questionnaires, is to investigate relations among tendency towards gender preference, gender roles and mental health. The research eventually obtains the following results: 1. The Questionnaires on College Students' Role of Gender compiles for the study has a high credibility and validity and can be used as an effective tool; 2. The percentage of androgyny, masculinity, femininity, undifferentiated person are respectively 31.3%, 21.4%, 22.8% and 24.5%. Compared with the recent research, the percentage of androgynous person is obviously higher. 3. Male and female college students both obviously present their gender preference; that is, male college students are more apt to enjoy reading works written by male writers, and female college students are more apt to enjoy reading works written by female writers; 4. College students' major have no influence on their gender preference in reading. 5. The questionnaires test successfully that different gender's students don't have a gender preference. 6. College students with an obvious gender preference have a high mental health level, which is right opposite to students without obvious gender preference.
