A Research On The Biograhpies Of Qianqianyi

Qian Qianyi was considered as a great writer,scholar and even the overlord of the literary arena at the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty. However,he was also despised and criticized by people for the fact that he surrendered to the Qing government.As a result,his biography research has always been ignored and not included in the overall study concerning Qian Qianyi.This paper tries to draw a whole picture of Qian Qianyi's biography by dissecting and analyzing Qian Qianyi's major biography works and taking into account the profound academic background and complex personal experience of Qian Qianyi,in the special historical background when Ming Dynasty was turning into Qing Dynasty.The paper is divided into five parts:Partâ… :preface,summarizing and analyzing the previous study of Qian Qianyi's biography writing,revealing the value and specific methods of studying his biography writing.Partâ…¡:analyzing the choice of the hero of Qian's biography.Qian Qianyi's biography hero mainly includes ten different types of people.Among them are Donglin party members,ordinary civilians,national hero of Ming Dynasty,the senior official of Qing Dynasty,celebrities,women,scholars,Buddhist monk,relatives and close friends of him.Presented in forms,their identities are clearly marked.The analysis focused on the underlying causes of the former five types' becoming the heroes of Qian Qianyi' biography.On this basis,the main feature is summed up in his choice of biography's hero:diverse and innovating while restoring the old.Partâ…¢:theme of biography.By means of example analysis,careful reading and comparison,we can see Qian' Qianyi's biographies not only covered the life of the heroes but also kept a record of the national crisis and its reasons;their academic achievements;their vivid personalities and qianqianyi's changed inner world after the fall of Ming Dynasty,which also reflect its main features.Partâ…£:free style of biography.On contrast to the diversity of heroes and rich meaning behind the themes is Qian Qianyi's free style of writing.It's manifested in the following three aspects:the factual record principle,narrating whilst expressing feelings and arguing,and one hero in the title but two in the biography actually.Partâ…¤:Conclusion, summarizing the basic characteristics,and innovation of Qian Qianyi's biography;pointing out its high academic values as historical data and also in terms of literature.In both Ming and Qing Dynasty his works were regarded as the first-class,causing a far-reaching influence on the creation of later biographies.And his biography is also the first-hand information in research concerning Qianqianyi,and should be read and studied in-depth.In this paper,the research on Qian Qianyi's biography is based on careful reading of the text,clear form classification,and careful objective analysis of the heroes,themes and ways of writing.I hope this article can contribute to the future analysis of Qian Qianyi and bring more inspiring point of views so that it can attract more scholars' attention to Qian Qianyi's biography.
