The Study On The Verb Reduplication Of Xu Jin Ping Mei

Xu Jin Ping Mei,the representative works of the early Qing Dynasty,is chosen in this dissertation,and also the verb reduplication in it are researched in an all-round way.In this dissertation the author gives a reasonable and accurate explanation on several grammatical functions of the verb reduplication as far as possible.Comparing with the former works,this dissertation discusses the features of the verb reduplication in Qing Dynasty,and the Chinese historical status of the verb reduplication in Xu Jin Ping Mei which is a connecting link between the preceding literatures and the following ones,so a more deepening cognition can be obtained on the modem Chinese verb-reduplication.PartⅠ:this chapter chiefly presents the important status of the verb reduplication in the Chinese grammar system,and also the history and present research works of the verb reduplication done by the grammarians,especially the research on the era of modem Chinese.Then the author outlines some elementary concepts of the researchers,analyzes the necessity of the dissertation's investigation,and gives a simple explanation on the correlated materials and research techniques.PartⅡ:the verb reduplication concrete forms,the data analysis of its using frequency and the verb reduplication condition in Xu Jin Ping Mei are discussed.Two categories,the monosyllable and the double syllable are discussed respectively.For the monosyllable verb reduplication,a detailed investigation is carried on from "AA" and "A—A".For the double syllable verb reduplication,a detailed investigation is carried on from "ABAB" and "AABB".The author gives an objective remark on the historical status of the verb reduplication in Xu Jin Ping Mei,lists the conditions of the verb reduplication and categories the verbs being used in verb reduplication.PartⅢ:A detailed analysis is given about the grammar meaning and grammar function of the verb reduplication.Four representative formats,"AA","A—A", "ABAB","AABB",are chosen to depict and analyzes the grammar meaning and grammar function of the monosyllable and the double syllable in Xu Jin Ping Mei, The grammar functions of the verb reduplication are reviewed from the following aspects:what sentential components they serve as,which kinds of sentence can they suit for,and "pre—" and "post—" compents etc.Also the difference between "AA" and "A—A" and "ABAB" and "AABB" is compared in details.PartⅣ:This chapter investigates the status of the verb reduplication in Xu Jin Ping Mei on the inheritance of the former verb reduplication and the transition to the modem Chinese,The author tries to seek its important basis from developing and discarding the verb reduplication formats,the Pronoun objects postposition and syntax function of the verb reduplication.
