The Negative Form Of Central-complement Phrase In Modern Chinese And The Comparison Between English And Chinese

According to the Three-plane theory and the Cognitive Grammar theory and based on a comprehensive analysis of the related corpus,this thesis combines two grammatical categories---central-complement phrase and negative in order to explore its the semantic expression.Using the method of Transform analysis,the auther researches further the relevance of the deep semantic expression and re-examines the debate regarding the negative scope in the central-complement phrase with the scope theory.At last,the comparison of Chinese and English would seek the consistency in language image space and the differences in language form,and then scientifically understand the dialectical relationship between Commonality and individuality of language.This article holds that the central-complement is a grammatical structure formed of two image factors,and the scope of the negative operator interpretes the Two-component nature of this phrase from another perspective.Including the preface and the conclusion,the whole thesis consist of five chapters.Chapter 1 the preface mainly states the significance of the research about the negative form of the central-complement phrase, makes a brief review and comments of the history and status quo about the central-complement phrase and negation research in Moderm Chinese,takes a comprehensive carding of the study characteristics and results in different periods,points out those research problem, introduces the theoretical framework used in this thesis and the area of research,describes the source corpus and the symbols used in this thesis.Chapter 2 By the inductive analysis of the grammatical units at all levels served as the complement,it establishes the complement`s grammatical status and fuction in the central-complement phrase;using two level classification criteria of aspect symbol and semantic fuction and combining the Chinese education in the current international practice,re-classifying the central-complement phrase simplifies the teaching grammar;selecting two typical negative words"bu"and"mei",makes a comparative study of the negative semantic expression with the scope theory.Chapter 3 Concerning the unity of expressive fuction of the grammatical structure and using the Three-plane theory,making a grammatical analysis of the differences in various types of the negative form of the central-complement phrase form both syntactic level and semantic level;using the Transform analysis,seeking the most representative characteristics of this phrase form different angles such as semantic point;at the same time,discussing, to some extent, the survival environment of various types of the negative form of the central-complement phrase.Chapter 4 Grasping the unity of the image space under the guidance of the Cognitive Grammar theory,making a comparative study of the differences of the syntactic structure and the semantic structure of the central-complement phrase between English and Chinese,and taking a preliminary exploring and summarizing of the the corresponding transformative relationship of the translation between English and Chinese;at last,combining the differences of negative expression in English and Chinese,describing further the pattern of manifestation of the negative form of the central-complement phrase in English grammar.Chapter 5 Concluding the whole thesis,and pointing out the remained questions in this research.
