Entitled with A Study of Music Appreciation Education in Colleges & Universities, the paper is intended to carry out initial research on the development of the music education and its present situation in the non-music colleges and universities in china.It is not long since the music appreciation education was developed comprehensively in non-music colleges and universities in china. Therefore, it is expected to be improved.The present study is divided to be three chapters. The first chapter mainly looks back upon the history of the music appreciation education in colleges and universities. As music has aesthetic functions and non-aesthetic functions, it is very necessary to develop the music course in non-music colleges and universities. It especially points out that the course itself is able to educate the students and is very important to nurture their taste and build up good characters.By analyzing the survey on its evaluation from the students and its present situation, chapter two is mainly intended to find out the ways to solve the problems facing the course. The problems are:the error of awareness, its staking status in universities, the out-of-date teaching plan, the incomplete theoretical system, and the backward scientific research on it. And it is hoped that this study may lead to the attention from more music teachers so that they can further explore how the course is reformed in universities.In chapter three the author puts forward his own suggestions, as far as the present situation of the music appreciation education is concerned. The suggestions are:different from the music teachers in primary schools and middle schools and the teachers in professional school, the music teachers in colleges and students must be able to guide the students and make the course interesting; they must be professional and learned; they must have good characters and the ability to express themselves and to organize the class. In addition, the paper also points out the study aim, the study content and the study method of the students.
