On The "Verb+zhu" Structure And Relevant Issues

Zhu is a common verb in the Chinese language. When it is used with a verb, a "verb + zhu" structure is realized. Such a structure is frequently used and highly complicated in terms of expression, meaning and usage. In the process of its grammaticalization, the grammatical aspect of zhu has been cultivated, largely due to people's anticipation and expectation over their cognitive process in the world. Based on the previous research, using relative theories, we hope to conduct a both synchronic and diachronic research into the "Verb + zhu" structure from both grammatical and syntactic perspectives and by means of description, and qualitative analyses. The paper has six parts.The first part is introduction. In this part, the author will declare the purpose and the significance of writing this paper. The author will have a review on the history of previous research into VP and "Verb+zhu".The second part is about the grammatical meaning of V zhu and the semantic features of the verb in this structure. The author will analyze the semantic features of this structure and construct the continuity for the grammatical meanings of zhu.Next, the author will provide some relevant sentences featuring a "verb+z/zw" structure for discussion. In this part, sentence patterns that are compatible with such a structure will be displayed, with an analyses regarding the semantic direction of zhu and a description of coexisting of "v + zhu" in the sentence.The fourth part is characterized by a diachronic review of "v+zhu" structures studied in part three and by the cognitive psychological motives that led to the grammaticalization of zhu.Part five will give a comparative research on "V+zhu" structures studied in the previous part. The research will involve pairs of "V+zhu" and "V+zhe", "V+zhu"and"V+zhao", and "V +zhu"and"V+lao(the Wu dialect)". The last part is conclusion.
