On The Study Of "在+VP+中"

The concept of Preposition Framework, an important grammatical structure in Chinese, is put forward in recent years. Although Preposition Framework is frequently used in language communication, the current study of it is far from enough, especially the systematic study of the framework of "在+VP+中", an even more frequently-used Preposition Framework.The study of the thesis starts with the analysis of the types of "VP" occurred in the framework and draws the conclusion that the "VP" occurred in the frame involves not only the bare nouns but also the phrases. Then, through the study of the features and types of the verbs used in the framework, listed in Verb Dictionary by Meng Zong (1987), the syntactic and semantic characteristics of such verbs are discovered. On the basis of the analysis of the distribution of the framework of "在+VP+中" in the texts, the syntactic and semantic factors which cause such distribution are generalized, and the grammatical meaning of the framework, the sense relation between the framework and the main clauses are illustrated. The further study lies in the pragmatic study of the discourse functions of the framework and the comparison between the framework of "在+VP+中" and the framework of "在+NP+中", and the distribution and the syntactic features of the former is reclaimed. To offer a comprehensive illustration of the framework, we end up the study with the analysis of the implicitness of the "在" and the "中" in the framework.
