The appearance of new curriculum criterion of art has made design become a very important part in the art education of middle school. The investigation of design education in middle school is a absolutely new realm. It contains something of design, but attaches to art classroom, which is hold for treasonous middle school students. It is such a new realm that there is no systemic accomplishment. There are so many problems about design education in middle school, such as its aim is ambiguous, the scope of its course is fuzzy, the unique value has not obtained clear revealed. In the teaching aspect, people can not tell the differences among design, drawing, and work technology. The design classroom take on obviously in pieces together.So, this article take the design education in middle school as the object of study, attempts to achieve following goals:Firstly, to coordinate the present research situations about design education of middle school both in domestic and foreign realms.Secondly, unifying the current social background as well as the design education requests, to elaborate the aim of designs education in middle school definitely, and to have a new discussion on the scope of its course. Simultaneously, I tried hard to identify the unique significances of design education in middle school, in order to distinguish between the middle school drawing teaching and the work technology teaching, and to make the design teaching became more systemic. According to the research, I consider that design education in middle school must choose a idiographic type of design as carrier. And its teaching should go with unit. I also did some experiments in Xuhui Middle School and Shanghai World Foreign Language Middle School,taking industrial design as a carrier. It is a improvement of my view, and also is a in-depth investigation about design education. At the end of this article, I have looked forward to the future of design education in middle school.
