On Chinese-Western Cultural Interaction From The Perspective Of Loan Words

Due to the fast development of communication technology, globalization has become a fashionable and common word. Cultural globalization has brought more and more problems that attract many scholars. Therefore the problem how to do better in the trend of cultural globalization is becoming attractive. We now live in an age when all the inhabitants of earth are interconnected.In the modern era, culture interaction is inevitable for every nation, affecting every level of society in every country all over the world. Loan words have the close relationship with culture interaction. They are the result of cultural contact. In intercultural contact situation, the interaction between borrowed and borrowing language must take place, which will lead to cultural fusion and conflict. So a multitude of loan words derived in the process of cultural interaction.Loan words are the results and reflection of culture interaction. For instance, we can see in which aspect and to what extend one culture is influenced by another from the category and quantity of loan words appearing at that time. China is coming into a critical era in the context of globalization. It is urgent to do a research to predict the future route of Chinese cultural development. This thesis aims to get the mainstream and trend of culture interaction in the context of globalization through a review of the past from the perspective of loan words. And the close relationship between language and culture is going to be presented at the same time.This research mainly adopts a combination of quantitative approach and qualitative approach. According to the importance in Chinese cultural history, four episodes, the Westernization Movement, the May Fourth Movement, the Foundation of the Nation and the Reforming and Opening, are chosen as the research context of loan words. After analyzing the data, the author will put forward some advices for the construction of Chinese new culture.
