Application Research Of Group Counseling On The Male Addicts

Domestic and foreign drug information on drug addicts have shown that successful rate of the physiological detoxification of drug addicts can reach 100%, but because the jobs on the psychological rehabilitation and social reintegration are not done well, relapse rate always keeps high. To effectively reduce the relapse, there must be a long time for psychological rehabilitation of drug addicts. Research has shown that the systematic psychological intervention and treatment for drug addicts can significantly reduce the relapse rate, extend the integrity of time, improve the personality structure, relieve symptoms and restore social functions and so on. Based on this, in this study, I adopted group counseling as the form of systematic psychological intervention and treatment on the male coercive drug addicts at Xinkaipu labor camp in Hunan Province.Objective To find out the effect of psychological application of the group counseling on the male coercive addicts, so as to provide some valuable theoretical basis and practical experience, and improve the efficiency of rehabilit-ation work. Method Using a random sample of 32 coercive addicts to take part in the systematic group psychological counseling, and another group of 32 addicts as control group with no group counseling. Before the group counseling, from the staff,300 male coercive addicts were randomly selected and measured by the SCL-90 to understand their mental health. At the same time, before and after the group counseling, the experimental group and control group were measured by the following scales:the SCL-90;drug craving scale;self-adopted scale(SAQ);coping style scale. Subjective attitude scale (effect assessment scales)was measured after the group counseling. The content of group counseling consisted of the mutual understanding and trust between the members, self-awareness, emotional manage-ment, frustration and stress response and heart addiction.Result The experimental group was measured in a pre-test and post-test, results showed a significant difference in mental health, self-awareness and coping styles. The pro-test and post-test results of the control group showed no difference;The comparision between the experimental group and control group also showed significant difference. However, in drug craving scale, all the comparisions showed no difference.Conclusion Group counseling for male coercive addicts in mental health, self-awareness and coping styles was effec-tive. For the experimental group,the level of self-awareness has advanced, mental health and coping style have improved at different degrees. But there was almost no effect in the heart addiction.
